1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using DevTunnel ("the Software"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. DevTunnel is open-source software distributed under the MIT License. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Software.
2. Description of Service
DevTunnel is a self-hosted terminal forwarding tool that allows users to securely access their local terminal sessions from remote devices via Cloudflare Tunnel. The Software provides:
- Terminal session forwarding over WebSocket connections
- Port forwarding through Cloudflare Tunnel infrastructure
- Passkey (WebAuthn) and passphrase-based authentication
- Progressive Web App (PWA) capabilities for mobile access
3. Self-Hosted Nature
DevTunnel is designed to be self-hosted on your own infrastructure. You are solely responsible for the security, availability, and maintenance of your DevTunnel installation. We do not operate, host, or manage any DevTunnel instances on behalf of users.
4. Security Responsibilities
While DevTunnel includes security features such as Helmet.js headers, Content Security Policy, rate limiting, and JWT-based authentication, you are responsible for:
- Configuring strong passphrases and JWT secrets
- Keeping the Software and its dependencies up to date
- Securing your Cloudflare Tunnel configuration
- Managing access to your terminal sessions
- Complying with applicable security best practices
5. Acceptable Use
You agree to use DevTunnel only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to use the Software:
- To gain unauthorized access to systems or networks
- To distribute malware, viruses, or other harmful software
- To violate any applicable local, national, or international law
- To infringe upon the rights of any third party
6. Open Source License
DevTunnel is released under the MIT License. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, subject to the conditions of the MIT License. The full license text is available in the project's GitHub repository.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
8. Third-Party Services
DevTunnel integrates with Cloudflare Tunnel for secure public access. Your use of Cloudflare services is subject to Cloudflare's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the availability, security, or policies of third-party services.
9. Data Privacy
DevTunnel stores minimal data locally on your server:
- Hashed passphrases (bcrypt) for authentication
- WebAuthn credential data for passkey authentication
- JWT session tokens (in-memory and HttpOnly cookies)
- Terminal session data (in-memory only, not persisted)
No telemetry, analytics, or personal data is collected or transmitted to external services by the Software itself.
10. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall the developers of DevTunnel be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of the Software.
11. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Software after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
